Spring Cleaning Simplified: Bathroom Edition
We’re on week 3 of our spring-cleaning fest. Next up: bathrooms. Everyone’s favorite cleaning spot!
The good news is that the less pleasant stuff you normally tend to. These are the other things that require attention, albeit less frequently, so that you can get your bathroom spring fresh and clean.

Wash your shower curtain and liner
Take both the liner and the curtain and place them in the washing machine. Take a few white towels and put them in the machine. They will help agitate the curtain and remove grime. Add detergent and pour a small amount of color-safe bleach into your machine’s bleach dispenser. Use a warm water setting so it doesn’t melt the plastic or vinyl.
If your fabric curtain requires cold water, wash your liner separately as the cold water may crack the plastic.
Clean out your medicine cabinet and vanity
It’s amazing how much stuff we accumulate in our bathroom cabinets and vanities. It’s important to at least once a year remove everything from the cabinets and clean inside. While you’re at it make sure that you:
- Review your old makeup. It doesn’t last forever, and dermatologists say that old makeup can be harmful in many ways. Here is a guide for the shelf life of different kinds of makeup.
- Go through your medications and throw out anything that is expired (or that you didn’t finish when treated). It’s really important to dispose of old meds properly, here’s how.
Details, details…
Got grout stains? Here’s how to get rid of them: Mix together 1/2 cup of baking soda, 1/4 cup of hydrogen peroxide, and 1 tsp dish soap. Apply cleaning mixture onto grout, wait 5-10 minutes, scrub and rinse.
Replace your toilet brush. I personally like the Oxo Good Grips Compact Cannister Brush because it’s cheap and clean.
Clean behind your toilet.
Clean the walls, over the medicine cabinet and vanity.
YOU’RE DONE!
Next week we head to the living areas. See ya then!
We’re breaking our spring cleaning list up into manageable pieces by areas of your home.
